How long have you been working for the Ripper Academy?

I have been working for the Ripper Academy for approx. 5 years. I started training the original Central Coast NSW Volunteers with the old Stella X8 drones that we no longer use.

How did you first get into the drone industry and how long have you been in it?

I got into the drone industry by building and flying my own drones which led to the opportunity to start a drone department for a weather company where I was Chief Pilot, Maintenance Controller and Pilot for 2 years.

What qualifications do you have?

REPL Sub 25KG Fixed Wing, REPL Sub 25KG  Multi-rotor, REPL Sub 25KG, Helicopter, AROC.

What do you love most about your job?

The thing I love most about my job is doing so many different things flying drones. One day could be doing RnD on a lifesaving dropping system for inflatable pods the next could be filming world record attempts, the next could be searching for koalas etc.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve done with your job?

The coolest thing I’ve seen or done with a drone is not easy as there are many, but some special ones have been filming The Spirit of Australia 2 boat passing metres below my drone at over 400KPH (trying to break the world water speed record), Live streaming the opening of the Invictus Games from the Opera House and being PIC of a rescue of two kids at Lennox Heads.
